About the Position:
SMU is seeking a highly motivated customer service professional to join our IT Help Desk team providing technical support for the SMU Community. This individual must first and foremost have a passion for customer service and possess solid troubleshooting skills on a variety of platforms. Primary responsibilities include providing customer service to students, faculty, and staff of the University in relation to technology questions and problems reported. Front line support is provided in person, on the phone and responding to chat or ticket requests. Individual will be responsible for troubleshooting and triaging computer hardware and software issues, loading software, configuring computer software, peripherals, and mobile devices, and providing support for a large number of applications.
Essential Functions:
Respond to technology questions and problems encountered via help desk channels.
Participate in career development activities to expand knowledge through technical and professional training.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidate with bachelor's degree is preferred.
A minimum of one to two (1-2) years of work experience in desk computer support and customer experience via phone (both MAC & PC Platforms) is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must possess experience with basic application support for specialized applications pertaining to client computer install and support. Candidate with strong customer service skills supporting customers and ability to learn new technologies is desired. Candidate that possess excellent troubleshooting, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. Candidate with solid understanding of SMU supported software applications (Microsoft Operating System and Office Suite, Apple Operating system standard applications, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and other applications deployed on the SMU campus) is preferred.
Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
Candidate would be on call approximately three (3) weeks out of the year for after hour emergencies. Candidate would be required to work some evening shifts during the work week and possible shifts on either Saturday or Sunday.
